I went travelling back in 2014 and it was honestly the best time of my life and I’m so happy I made the decision to go. My boyfriend wanted to travel for ages and when he put the idea across to me, I thought of many reasons as to why it wouldn’t be a good idea.
Head over heart
– We’ve just graduated! If we go and start a job to save money and then leave it, it will look bad on our CV
– This is going to cost so much money! How can we afford it and how can we justify it?
– Some places are dangerous though- like, what if a monkey steals my backpack and I’m lost in the middle of nowhere with no money and no phone?
My boyfriend only responded with one thing
– We will never get the chance to do this later on in our lives when we have a mortgage and family so why not enjoy this time now?
Okay, I was sold! We booked an appointment with the lovely STA Travel office in Liverpool and we sat down and mapped our plans. 4 months away from September to January visiting as many countries as we could and just going for it. We booked our main flights (Alex was better at the geography side of things!) and that was it- we had the main foundations of the plan set. Now all we do had to was book internal flights, coaches, buses as well as booking accommodation in each place, working out transfers and planning a list of things we wanted to do. Phew, I’m exhausted just thinking about it all again!
So much planning went into our trip as we had knew how much time we had in each place and we couldn’t just leave it to last minute plans as it wouldn’t have worked with our itinerary however if there were two things that were essential to my trip- it were my best friends. Nike & Cath.
Yes yes, you need a lot more! Currency, passports, insurance etc but in terms of day to day Nike & Cath got me through many a hot or freezing day in the comfiest fashion. Wondering who Nike & Cath are? See the photo below!
Yes, the cutest backpack which withstands all weather types and is spot on for hold on luggage and my Nike trainers which allowed my feet to breathe in the hottest of climates and kept me comfy up the mountains and around the towns. If I could recommend two things you just have to take with you on your trip, it would be these. Plus Nike and Cath Kidston are just two of the best when it comes to backpacks and comfy trainers.
Next posts will be about my travels! I’ll be writing about each place we went to, where we stayed and what we did plus any tips I can think of. I’ll also plan to do a few posts on other travel-y tips and treats.
So stay tuned, it’s going to be a beautiful ride!
